Message from the Director
Dear Veterans, friends and neighbors:
Since 1870, Hampton VA Medical Center has served Veterans of eastern Virginia and northeastern North Carolina. We have a history of achievements in the advancements in medical care, technology, equipment and a committed workforce. And, while I’m proud to share that the Hampton VA Medical Center ranks 6th out of 34 Level 2 VA medical centers around the country, my goal is to make us #1.
Recently, WAVY-TV 10 has chosen to highlight the stories of a small number of patients who have sought the television station as a method of addressing their personal concerns. We’ve experienced some troublesome areas, some of which have been addressed, and some still to be addressed. That said, rest assured that I, along with the entire staff, take the concerns of all our Veterans very seriously.
It is our mission to provide each Veteran safe, accessible, quality healthcare. The safety and quality of care is our primary concern. In the last two years, we have received numerous inspections with outcomes that included full Joint Commission accreditation as well as full accreditation by the Department of Veterans Affairs Office of the Inspector General.
Customer Satisfaction scores are based in large part on access and wait times. In this arena, our scores continue to climb and the fact that we track and take action on all comments demonstrates our commitment to continuous improvement.
As Medical Center Director, it is my responsibility to ensure that our patients feel confident coming to us and allowing us the first opportunity to hear and address their concerns. I have placed “Tell it to the Director” boxes around the hospital for all -- patients and staff -- to be able to share concerns and comments directly with me. Contents are collected each day and delivered to me personally for a thorough review and response.
Hampton VA Medical Center is experiencing significant growth in our patient population. Last year, our 1,600 person staff served more than 33,500 Veterans, providing for more than 400,000 outpatient visits along with 2,500 admissions. You can see by the many construction projects ongoing that while our workload continues to increase, we are working hard to grow our staff and facilities to meet not only the needs of today, but tomorrow’s as well.
Rest assured that Hampton VA Medical Center continues to place your health care needs and access to care at the core of all our decisions and process changes. We’ll continue to do everything we can to meet – and exceed – your expectations as we are PROUD TO SERVE.
Sincerely,
DeAnne M. Seekins, MBA
Director, Hampton VA Medical Center
