Welcome Home Heroes Event - Friday, April 29, the Hampton VA Medical Center’s transition and care management team is sponsoring a welcome home event focusing on Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF), Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF), and Operation New Dawn (OND) Veterans, on the hospital grounds near the waterfront from 10 AM through 2 PM. Hampton VAMC Open House and Assistance Fair - On Wednesday, March 30, the Hampton VA Medical Center will hold an Open House and Assistance Fair for Veterans from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at the Hospital Main Chapel, BLDG 48. The event is an opportunity for Hampton Roads Veterans to come and learn about the Hampton VA Medical Center, obtain assistance with enrollments and benefits, and speak to the medical center director and senior leadership. Hampton Earns “Top Performer on Key Quality Measures®” Recognition from the Joint Commission - The Hampton VA Medical Center (VAMC) today was named Top Performer on Key Quality Measures® by The Joint Commission, the leading accreditor of health care organizations in America. The Hampton VAMC was recognized by The Joint Commission for exemplary performance in using evidence-based clinical processes that are shown to improve surgical care. (10/30/2013)

2013 Flu Season - Everyone 6 months of age and older should get a yearly flu vaccine. Ample supplies of influenza vaccine are now available. It takes about two weeks after vaccination for your body to develop an immune response. Get vaccinated now so that you will be protected when flu season begins. VA Mid-Atlantic Healthcare Network Announces New Medical Center Director - The Department of Veterans Affairs announced today the appointment of Michael H. Dunfee as the new Director of the Hampton VA Medical Center (VAMC). Dunfee will oversee delivery of health care to more than 40,000 Veterans living in eastern Virginia and northeastern North Carolina. (12/21/2012)

VA to Increase Mental Health Staff by 1,900 - Secretary of Veterans Affairs Eric K. Shinseki today announced that the department would add approximately 1,600 mental health clinicians – to include nurses, psychiatrists, psychologists, and social workers as well as nearly 300 support staff to its existing workforce of 20,590 mental health staff as part of an ongoing review of mental health operations. Ensuring Veteran Healthcare - The Hampton VA Medical Center electronic medical record system (VistA), a software program that allows access to Veteran medical records, experienced technical difficulty with the system’s hardware on Thursday morning; however, steps were immediately put in place to ensure the healthcare of our Veterans was not impacted.
