Harold Hoffstaetter, a 74-year-old Navy Veteran, will be competing in the upcoming National Veterans Wheel Chair Games being held in Richmond, Va., next week.

Hoffstaetter, who has already won 4 gold medals, is an experienced competitor in the wheelchair games and said that he is looking forward to adding more gold to his collection during this year’s games.  His favorite events are Bowling, Ping Pong, and the 9 Ball and the Veteran added that he really enjoys participating.

Mr. Hoffstaetter was injured in October 2002 when he was struck by another vehicle as he pulled over to the side of the road to assist someone in need.

“One of the hardest things I had to cope with was not being able to play golf,” Hoffstaetter said, adding that each day he strives to live life to the fullest.

The Veteran, who proudly shares that he’s been married for 54 years, praised the tremendous support he has received from the Spinal Cord Injury Unit staff as he prepares for the 2012 games.
