Damage Assessed After Irene

High winds damaged street signs

High winds from Hurricane Irene bent metal street signs showing the impact from the storm.

Sunday, August 28, 2011

Hampton VA Medical Center employees worked throughout the night to ensure the safety of VA patients and staff during Hurricane Irene.

As Hurricane Irene battered the seawall along the Hampton VAMC, she left behind fallen branches and tree limbs to be cleaned up by the Hampton VA employees. Debris litters many areas of the campus with minor damage to structures on the medical center campus that were due to high winds and heavy rainfall.

VA employees were up early to begin to remove debris but fortunately everyone remained safe during the storm and the return to normal operations has begun.
