Hampton VA Medical Center Announces New Director
Dr. Taquisa K. Simmons has been appointed Director of the Hampton VA Medical Center
Hampton, Va. – The Department of Veterans Affairs is pleased to announce Taquisa K. Simmons as the new Executive Director of the Hampton VA Medical Center.
Dr. Simmons was appointed Executive Director on January 17, 2021. She oversees delivery of health care to more than 59,050 Veterans at the medical center, which is currently experiencing a 16.82% percent growth rate (more than 5 times the national average) and an operating budget exceeding $500 million. In addition, Dr. Simmons brings ten years of entrepreneurial experience as prior CEO/Owner of a mental health community-based agency which offered clinical and residential services. She was responsible for three sites across Virginia that included Chesapeake, Portsmouth and Hopewell while serving over 5,000 Veterans and civilians over the course of 10 years.
In her previous capacity. Dr. Simmons served as Associate Director of Operations. As Associate Director of Operations of the Hampton VA Medical Center, she is responsible for service lines that include Fiscal, Health Administration, Prosthetics, Supply Chain Management, Voluntary Service, Police, Environmental Management, Engineering Service, Privacy and LGBTQ Program Office.
