Hampton VAMC hosts VA2K Walk and Roll
The Hampton VA Medical Center will host a 2K walk and roll event on May 16, at 11 a.m. in support of Employee Wellness Month and to support homeless Veterans.
“Worksite wellness activities enhance employee engagement and contribute to a more productive and healthy workforce,” said DeAnne M. Seekins, medical center director. “We here at Hampton VA Medical Center are proud to conduct this VA2K event and are committed to ensuring we have a happy and healthy workforce here to serve our Veteran community.”
The VA2K Walk and Roll event is just one of many 2Ks taking place that day at other VA facilities across the country. Although there is no registration fee, employees and volunteers participating in the event are asked to donate an item for a homeless Veteran. Participation is open to the community.
"We are really looking for some simple donations that can really help a homeless Veteran," said Marty Chick-Ebey, social worker at Hampton VAMC. "Tuna-kits, small knapsacks, travel size toothpaste, tooth brushes, deodorant or feminine products can all be used."
Begining May 11, donations and event preregistration will be taking place at the Hampton VAMC Police Station, Canteen or at the Employee Health clinic. Donated items will also be accepted at the VA2K registration area on the day of the event.
The VA2K Walk and Roll will be held at Hampton VA Medical Center, 100 Emancipation Drive, starting at the Gazebo on the waterside of the campus. Pre-registration is not required and those interested in participating should plan to arrive the gazebo no later than 10:45 a.m. For additional information and more event details, please contact the local 2K coordinator, Dr. Jemecia Braxton at (757) 722-9961, extension 2636 or via email at Jamecia.Braxton@va.gov.
