Clinic model for outpatient care, GRAND OPENING to occur Nov. 10 at 1 p.m.

HAMPTON, VA ~ Veterans Day celebrations are beginning a day early for Veterans throughout northeastern North Carolina when the Hampton VA Medical Center (VAMC) officially opens its newest state-of-the-art health care facility Nov. 10 in Elizabeth City, NC.

DeAnne M. Seekins, director of the Hampton VAMC, will open the new Albemarle Primary Outpatient Clinic (POC) during a ceremony taking place from 1 to 2 p.m. at the new facility’s location, 1845 W City Drive, Elizabeth City, NC.  The ceremony will be followed by refreshments and tours of the new facility.

“The VA remains committed to bringing world-class health care and greater access to care for Veterans throughout northeastern North Carolina communities,” Seekins said, explaining that the facility will be over 8,000 square feet and will have the capacity to serve 2,400 Veterans who qualify for VHA services from the surrounding counties.  “This opening represents another important step toward enhancing care for the region’s Veterans.”

A letter that explains the enrollment procedure was mailed to Veterans who may qualify for services at the POC this past Friday.

“The Albemarle POC is a model for primary care and other services,” Seekins said.  “It will offer our Veterans the much needed primary care and mental health services that they would have previously had to travel more than an hour to receive at our medical center in Hampton.”

The new clinic, which began construction in January of this year following a groundbreaking event, will augment the services of the Hampton VAMC for Veterans living in the area.  The Albemarle POC will be staffed by the VA and held to national performance standards by the Hampton VAMC.  This is the second clinic managed from Hampton VAMC, with the other located in Virginia Beach, Va.

The POC will expand the VA’s capacity for outpatient care in northeastern, North Carolina counties.  The service area includes: Hertford, Gates, Chowan, Perquimans, Pasquotank, Camden, Currituck, Tyrell and Dare Counties.
