The staff of the Hampton VA Medical Center recognize and are supportive of the therapeutic benefits of visitation for our inpatient veterans as a vital part of the healing process.
Persons entering this Medical Center are expected to conduct themselves in a quiet and orderly manner, so as not to interrupt routine operations.
Visitors will be advised over the Public Address System at the conclusion of visiting hours.
The following visiting hours are provided:
1) Mental Health Wards: Visitation hours are Monday - Friday 6:30 - 8:00 PM. Weekends and Holidays 1:00 - 3:00pm and 6:30 - 8:00 pm.
2) Intensive Care Unit (ICU): Daily - initial fifteen minutes of the even hours from 12:00 noon until 8:00 p.m. - limit of two visitors at a time per patient.
3) Nursing Home Care Unit: Visitation to the NHCU is permitted by family members of residents at any time when it does not interfere with the resident care.
4) Palliative Care Program: Visitation is permitted by family members of residents at any time that does not interfere with resident care.
5) Spinal Cord Injury Unit: Daily - 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. - the primary nurse or physician may restrict the times and/or number of visitors as appropriate to the patient's condition.
6) Domiciliary: Daily - 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. - Domiciliary visitors are not permitted in the bedroom pods, visitation being limited to the Support Core of Building 148.
During emergency situations, the property may be closed to the public when reasonably necessary to ensure the orderly conduct of government business.
Number of Visitors
A patient may receive no more than two visitors at a time.
Food and Beverages
Visitors may not bring food or beverages to patients without authorization from unit physicians or nurses.
Children Under 12 Years of Age
Children under 12 may not visit inpatients. Unless otherwise specified by a physician or charge nurse, inpatients may visit with younger children in the waiting rooms provided by the elevator lobbies.
In extreme circumstances, children under 12 may visit with the permission of the physician and the charge nurse. An adult must accompany children at all times.
Clergy
Members of the clergy are welcome to visit patients who are members of their particular religious group at any time at the discretion of the unit physicians or nurses.
