Partners and Education

As a teaching hospital, VAMC Hampton provides a full range of services, with state-of-the-art technology as well as education and research.

Academic Partners

VAMC Hampton is primarily affiliated with the Eastern Virginia Medical School.  We offer residency training in all major medical, mental health and subspecialties. Associated Health Training is offered in nursing, psychology, optometry, social work, dietetics, and pharmacy.

In FY 05, over 700 university residents, interns and students trained 40 hours or more at the Hampton VAMC.

Veterans Service Organizations

VAMC Hampton maintains a active and open relationship with all of our veteran service organization (VSO) partners. We meet quarterly to brief our VSO representatives on issues which impact veterans' health care.

US Department of Defense

A shared staffing demonstration project with the 1st Medical Group of Langley Air Force Base was approved by the TRICARE Management Activity (TMA) and Air Force Surgeon General (AFSG) in April 2005.  The project identified an opportunity to enter into a pilot sharing initiative for the provision of pathology service.
